Sell your French books

French books, French and Francophone authors in English, bilingual books and books for learning French. Receive an offer in cash or bookshop credit before arranging a handover.

Books we are looking to buy

We buy selected second-hand books in these categories:

  • Books in French: novels, classics, crime fiction, essays, memoirs, and books for children and young adults.
  • French and Francophone authors translated into English: fiction, classics, essays and other works originally written in French.
  • French–English bilingual books: for adults, children and learners.
  • Books for learning French (FLE): coursebooks, graded readers, grammar and vocabulary books, and teaching resources.

Have a few books or a larger collection? Send us photos so we can see which titles would suit the bookshop.

What to send

Photos of the spines or a short list, the approximate number of books, their condition and your area or postcode. For unusual or potentially valuable copies, add photos of the cover, title page and any signature or damage.

For French-learning books, please include a photo of the cover and edition, and tell us whether any exercises have been completed or pages are missing.

We select books according to condition, demand, current stock and likely UK resale value. We may offer to buy part of a collection; sending photos does not guarantee a purchase.

Cash or a higher amount in bookshop credit

We tell you both amounts before you decide. An offer based on photos or a list is subject to checking the books at handover.

If you choose credit, your voucher shows its value and one of these options:

  • Online only: a personal code for this website.
  • Market and bookshop only: use it at our stall, or in our future shop once it opens.

The same voucher cannot be used across both options. Any remaining credit stays with your chosen option; contact us to use the remainder of an online voucher.

Once you accept our offer

Arrange a handover in Headington on weekdays by appointment, or at Gloucester Green Market, Oxford, Saturdays 9am–5pm from 19 September 2026.

Collection in Oxfordshire or London may be possible for suitable collections. Please do not travel, post or leave books before we confirm the arrangement.

Outside Oxford?

If you are outside Oxford, we cover postage for books we have agreed to buy. Postage costs are taken into account when calculating our cash or bookshop credit offer. We agree the offer and postal arrangements with you before you send your books.
