Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 23 August 2026.

1. Seller and scope

The website lapetitelibrairieoxford.co.uk is operated by Olivia Quetier, a sole trader trading as La Petite Librairie française d’Oxford, 52 Binswood Avenue, Oxford OX3 8NZ, United Kingdom. Email: bonjour@lapetitelibrairieoxford.co.uk.

These Terms and Conditions apply to books and other products purchased through the website, whether delivered in the United Kingdom or collected in Oxford. They do not limit any mandatory consumer rights under UK law.

2. Books and new-book requests

The shop offers new and pre-owned books and, where stated, related products. The product page gives the main characteristics, language, price and condition. For a pre-owned book, known signs of use or faults are described as accurately as possible and the photographs normally show the actual copy.

If a new book is not listed in the online shop, you may send a request using the Order a new book service. Sending a request does not commit you to buying the book. We will confirm availability, the price and the estimated arrival time before you decide whether to proceed and pay.

3. Prices

Prices are shown in pounds sterling (GBP) and include applicable taxes where relevant. Any delivery charge is shown before you place the order. Free Click & Collect in Oxford is available where offered.

We may change prices for future orders. The price for an accepted order is the price shown when the order is placed. If there is an obvious pricing error, we will contact you so that you can confirm the order at the correct price or cancel it for a full refund.

4. Orders and formation of the contract

Before placing an order, you should check your basket, contact details and chosen delivery or collection method. An acknowledgement is sent by email. The contract is formed when we accept and confirm your order.

We may refuse or cancel an order if a product is unavailable, there is an obvious error, payment is not authorised, there is a reasonable suspicion of fraud, or delivery is not possible. Any amount already paid for an order cancelled by us will be refunded.

5. Payment

Payment is made in pounds sterling using the methods offered at checkout. The total amount, including products and any delivery charge, is shown before confirmation. Online payments are processed by the secure providers offered on the website; La Petite Librairie does not keep full payment-card details.

6. UK delivery and Free Click & Collect in Oxford

Available delivery areas, methods, charges and estimated times are shown at checkout. Unless a different period is expressly agreed, goods will be delivered no later than 30 days after the contract is made. You must provide a complete and accurate address.

For Free Click & Collect in Oxford, we will contact you when your order is ready and confirm the collection place and time. Please do not travel to collect before receiving that confirmation. Risk passes to you when you take physical possession of the goods, either on delivery or collection.

If an order is significantly delayed, appears lost or arrives damaged, please contact bonjour@lapetitelibrairieoxford.co.uk as soon as possible so that we can investigate and offer an appropriate solution.

7. Cancelling an online order

If you are a consumer, you may usually cancel all or part of an online order without giving a reason within 14 days after the day you receive the goods. This also applies when an online order is later collected in Oxford. If goods from one order arrive separately, the period normally runs from receipt of the last item.

To cancel, send a clear statement before the deadline to bonjour@lapetitelibrairieoxford.co.uk. You may also use the cancellation form available on the website, but you are not required to use it.

After notifying us, return the goods within 14 days to La Petite Librairie française d’Oxford, 52 Binswood Avenue, Oxford OX3 8NZ, United Kingdom. Unless the item is faulty, not as described or sent in error, you are responsible for the direct return cost. You must take reasonable care of the goods while they are in your possession.

The refund includes the price of the cancelled goods and, when the whole order is cancelled, the cost of our standard delivery option. Extra charges for a more expensive delivery method are not refunded. We will refund you no later than 14 days after receiving the goods back or receiving evidence that you sent them, whichever is earlier, using the original payment method unless agreed otherwise.

Legal exceptions to the cancellation right still apply, including goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised. A standard new book ordered specially from a supplier is not treated as personalised merely because it was ordered for you. Nothing in this section reduces your rights if goods are faulty or not as described.

8. Faulty, damaged or misdescribed goods

Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for their usual purpose and as described, in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If goods are faulty or not as described, you may have legal remedies, including the short-term right to reject them and receive a refund within 30 days of receipt where that right applies.

For a pre-owned book, wear or a fault clearly disclosed before purchase is not, by itself, a breach of contract. Your other legal rights remain. Contact bonjour@lapetitelibrairieoxford.co.uk before returning the item so that we can arrange the appropriate remedy and, where applicable, reasonable return costs.

9. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by circumstances reasonably beyond our control. If this happens, we will inform you as soon as possible and take reasonable steps to reduce the effects.

10. Personal information

We use personal information to manage orders, payments, delivery, Click & Collect and enquiries, as explained in our Legal Information and Privacy Notice. Information may be shared with service providers needed to fulfil the order, such as payment and delivery providers. Newsletter subscription is optional and handled separately.

11. Complaints

For questions or complaints, email bonjour@lapetitelibrairieoxford.co.uk or write to Olivia Quetier, La Petite Librairie française d’Oxford, 52 Binswood Avenue, Oxford OX3 8NZ, United Kingdom. We will first try to resolve the matter directly and within a reasonable time.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you keep any mandatory consumer protections and rights to bring proceedings available where you live. These Terms do not affect your statutory rights.

A model cancellation form is available at https://lapetitelibrairieoxford.co.uk/formulaire-de-retractation.html.
